DNA Testing Laboratory Process
Your paternity testing experience begins with the collection of your DNA test samples. Once you post your samples to our laboratory, you can be confident in the DNA testing procedure that the samples undergo. Upon receipt of the samples, the laboratory submits the samples to two teams of experts to analyse. Your paternity test results will be generated twice and compared to ensure accurate results. A final report of your DNA test results will be returned to you.
Step 1:
Team A receives the samples. Team A of the Log-In Department receives all DNA testing packages as they arrive in the lab. The packages and all enclosed items are checked closely for evidence of tampering. Each sample receives its own unique ID number that it will carry throughout the DNA testing process.
A different member of Team A will check all DNA testing samples against the provided paperwork and ensure that the ID numbers are accurate.
The mouth swab samples are taken to Team A of the DNA Testing Department. Here the DNA is removed from a DNA testing swab and isolated from the rest of the cellular debris (proteins, etc.).
The pure DNA, along with DNA primers (the DNA locations being tested), is placed in a machine called a thermocycler where it will undergo a series of temperature cycles. The temperature cycles will cause the DNA to amplify (make copies of itself) and get it ready for further DNA testing.
The amplified DNA is placed into an ABI Prism Genetic Analyser machine where each DNA test sample is mapped. The genetic analyser provides a comprehensive profile for each individual tested.
